Step This Way

Creative and captivating performance! That people can just stumble upon it and enjoy is such a great element.”

-Leah Faye Cooper, NYC-based fashion editor and Chapel Hill native

"Step This Way" is a site-specific performance featuring live music and dance by Mark Gabriel Little and Maura García. Commissioned by the Ackland Art Museum, the performance took place on and around the pARC light installation sculpture. The performance looped and restarted throughout the evening, featuring new sets at 7pm, 7:30pm, 8pm and 8:30pm (watch a full set here). "Step This Way" transformed the seemingly unrelated elements of the museum and the surrounding areas into a unifying performance experience.

Just as no sunrise is identical to another, no "Step This Way" performance is identical. It is a breathing work shaped and formed by changing relationships to place and living beings. Like the pARC installation, Mark and Maura's performance responds "to the environment, reflecting and refracting the surrounding context through its colorful dichroic lenses". "Step This Way" celebrates place, the arts and the capacity that we have to listen to, relate to and beautifully respond to one another.
